Negotiations between buyer and seller…from Nathan Boynton

Whether you’re buying your first home, selling your first home, or have bought and sold homes for years, negotiations are inevitable.  This has been more prevalent in the past four years because of the economy and the downward spiral of the housing market. In the height of the market you threw a sign in the yard, and a day or so later three offers presented themselves with full price or higher. Today, when an offer is submitted there are two negotiations. One on the price and terms, the other after the home inspection is completed and repairs are needed (excluding distressed properties). It’s very important the Realtor remain calm and listens to his/her buyer or seller and only advise after their thoughts have been expressed. Typically, two good agents have no issues hashing out the details and the sale closing. However, complications do arise and this is why it is very important to remain calm and make decisions over a short period of time. Impulse decisions can cost the buyer or seller the home.  In closing, when complications to negotiations arise, stay calm and trust the expertise of your Realtor-you’ll be glad you did!! nboynton@carolinaone.com
